Indoor air quality for warehouse workers is an ongoing issue. Heat, humidity, fumes, mold and dust all factor into warehouse air quality. Aside from employee comfort and safety on the job, indoor air quality can affect a job performance as well. An overheated, disgruntled worker is more likely to make mistakes or put themselves at risk for injury.

Here’s how to ventilate a warehouse to ensure a safe, secure, comfortable environment for all:

Monitor humidity levels

During warm-weather months, warehouse humidity levels should remain below 55 percent. Moisture in the air can cause corrosion on metal shelving (a common feature found in warehouses) as well as cause mold and mildew, which are both health hazards to humans and can cause damage to warehouse materials and supplies. Industrial dehumidifiers can help ventilate a warehouse by pulling moisture out of the air.

Keep things cool

Your workers need a comfortable environment to work in and you may have products that need to be kept at a certain temperature. Many warehouses have electronic controls that won’t function optimally if they’re overheated. HVLS fans can help ventilate a warehouse by circulating cool air, preventing uncomfortable working conditions, and protecting valuable assets.

Turn things off

Machines make noise and give off harmful fumes. Whenever possible, turn things off and give your employees—and the environment—a break. Any machines that are running need to have a ventilation system to remove excess heat.

Use the night air

Allow the night air in through doors and windows to conserve energy at night and cool things off. If you have windows that are high up, open them up at night to take advantage of heat rising and cooler evening temperatures. Your warehouse will cool down by morning and you won’t have to run so much electricity.

Insulate

How to ventilate a warehouse? Insulate a warehouse. In cold weather or hot, having tight-fitting doors and windows is a great way to keep the indoor warehouse temperature the way you want it.
